Cybersecurity Risk Assessment Services
CyberCrest provides cybersecurity risk assessment services that identify, evaluate, and prioritize the information security risks in your environment, for frameworks and laws such as HIPAA, ISO 27001, and GDPR. A framework may require a risk assessment, a customer may ask for one, or you may want a clear view of your security posture. You receive actionable reports that can help your organization reduce risks, comply with regulations, and protect critical assets.

METHODOLOGY
Our Cybersecurity Risk Assessment Methodology
Our IT risk assessment services run in four steps, from scoping to the final report.

Scoping
Your team decides whether the assessment covers the whole company, one division, or a set of systems. We start with a kickoff call and a walkthrough of your systems and the sensitive data they hold. Then we guide you through each choice and document the scope.
Risk Identification
We identify the threats and vulnerabilities that put the systems and data in scope at risk and review the security controls already in place. In a HIPAA risk analysis, that review covers your technical, physical, and administrative safeguards for electronic protected health information (ePHI).
Risk Analysis and Prioritization
For each risk, we analyze how likely it is to happen and what impact it would have, then assign a risk rating. We rank the risks by their ratings, and your team can see which ones to address before any remediation work starts.
Reporting
You receive a report with the rated risks and recommended mitigation strategies. For the fixes you take on, our remediation support is the next step.
SERVICES
Cybersecurity Assessment Services for Compliance, Privacy, and Security Posture
We run three kinds of risk assessment, each tied to a framework or a law, and one posture and maturity assessment against the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
DELIVERABLES
What You Receive from a CyberCrest Risk Assessment
The assessment ends with written documents your security team can work from and your leadership can read.
WHY US
Why Choose CyberCrest for IT Security Assessment Services
We are a compliance firm and a cybersecurity risk assessment company: the firm that assesses your risks also holds PCI DSS, HITRUST, and CMMC credentials.
Compliance Credentials
We are a PCI DSS Qualified Security Assessor Company (QSAC), an Authorized External Assessor Organization for HITRUST, and a CMMC Registered Practitioner Organization (RPO). Our compliance work also extends to HIPAA, ISO 27001, GDPR, and NIST CSF.
Remediation Support After the Assessment
Our hands-on remediation support follows the risk assessment. Your team decides how to treat each risk and puts the fix in place; we specify what each fix has to achieve, sit with your IT team while they work, and review what they build.
Ready to Start
While some firms may require several months to begin, CyberCrest staffs up ahead of time and is always ready to start the engagement.
Over 100 Client Engagements
Over 100 client engagements across multiple industries stand behind our work, with clients in Asia Pacific, Europe, the US, and Canada. Most engagements are recurring.

ABOUT RISK ASSESSMENTS
What Is a Cybersecurity Risk Assessment?
NIST SP 800-30 defines risk assessment as the process of identifying, estimating, and prioritizing information security risks. In NIST's glossary, a risk assessment is part of risk management and "incorporates threat and vulnerability analyses, and considers mitigations provided by security controls planned or in place." With a risk assessment of your own environment, you can:
- Find the threats that matter most and reduce your cybersecurity risk where it is highest.
- Meet the risk assessment requirements of frameworks such as HIPAA and CMMC, and of the privacy laws you answer to.
- Protect critical assets by deciding which security controls to strengthen first.
- Give decision-makers a ranked view of risk when they plan security investments.
WHEN TO ASSESS
When Your Organization Needs a Cybersecurity Risk Assessment
Organizations come to us for a risk assessment when a customer, a regulator, or their own team asks where their risks stand.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a cyber security assessment cost?
It depends on scope: the systems and locations the assessment covers, the frameworks or laws it has to answer, and how much documentation already exists. Compare quotes for security assessment professional services only when they cover the same systems against the same requirement. A scoping call with CyberCrest is how you get a figure for your organization.
How long does a cybersecurity risk assessment take?
The timeline follows the scope of the assessment. CyberCrest agrees on the timeline with you during a kickoff call, along with the objectives and the approach. Because CyberCrest staffs up ahead of time, the work can start as soon as the engagement is scoped.
How often should a cybersecurity risk assessment be performed?
As often as the rule you answer to asks. HHS guidance says the HIPAA Security Rule does not specify how often to perform a risk analysis and that the process should be ongoing. NIST SP 800-171 R2 requirement 3.11.1, used for CMMC Level 2, says to assess risk periodically. Under PCI DSS v4.0.1, some requirements leave their frequency to the organization's targeted risk analysis.
What are the three main types of security assessments?
Three that CyberCrest offers are a risk assessment, a vulnerability scan, and a penetration test; other sources group assessments differently. A risk assessment ranks the risks to your information by likelihood and impact. A vulnerability scan identifies and prioritizes potential vulnerabilities in your systems, networks, and applications. A penetration test simulates real-world attack scenarios to show what an attacker could exploit.
What is the difference between cyber security risk assessment and vulnerability assessment?
A vulnerability assessment finds technical weaknesses in systems, networks, and applications. A cybersecurity risk assessment asks what those weaknesses, and threats beyond them, mean for your organization: how likely each threat is and how much harm it could do, so you know which risks to treat first. Vulnerability findings can be one input to a risk assessment; they do not replace it.
How does an IT audit differ from a security assessment?
An audit checks a system against a defined standard or set of procedures and records the findings and corrective actions. CyberCrest's Lead Auditors run internal audits of this kind for ISO 27001 before certification. A security assessment asks a different question: where your risks are and which safeguards to strengthen. An IT security assessment company that also runs internal audits can tell you which of the two your requirement calls for.
What should an IT risk assessment include?
An IT risk assessment should cover the threats and vulnerabilities to your systems and the security controls planned or in place. A CyberCrest assessment also covers an agreed scope, an evaluation of each risk, and the order in which to address the risks, and it ends with a risk assessment report, an executive summary, and a remediation roadmap, as the methodology and deliverables sections of this page describe.
